Terms of Use

These Terms of Use describe how you may use the Recover.md website and the free Recover.md Windows desktop application. They are not legal advice.

Free software

Recover.md is offered as free software for personal and professional use, subject to these terms. There is no subscription charge for the current Windows MVP. Features, platform support, and availability may change.

Local file operation

The desktop application operates on Markdown files you choose on your computer. It creates and stores local version history in application data on your device. You remain responsible for choosing which folders to monitor and for protecting access to your computer.

Ownership of your files

You retain ownership of your Markdown files and their contents. Recover.md does not claim ownership of your documents. Local history copies created by the app remain under your control on your device.

Acceptable use

You may use Recover.md in accordance with applicable law. Do not use the website or application to interfere with others’ systems, attempt unauthorized access, abuse infrastructure, or distribute malware. Do not misuse the site’s forms or endpoints with automated abuse.

Third-party products

Recover.md can watch Markdown files written by third-party tools such as editors and AI coding agents. Those tools are separate products with their own terms. Recover.md is not responsible for third-party software behavior.

Recover.md is an independent project and is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by Anthropic, Cursor, Obsidian, Microsoft, or other third-party product providers unless explicitly stated otherwise.

Not a backup service

Recover.md provides local version history. It is not a backup, sync, disaster-recovery, or off-site storage service. You should continue using backups, sync, or source control appropriate for your needs.

No guarantee of capture or recovery

Recover.md does not guarantee that every change will be detected, stored, or recoverable. Limitations include, among others: history beginning only after you select a folder; changes made while the application is not running; skipped large or unsupported files; and other constraints described in product documentation.

Website

You may use this website to learn about Recover.md and download or learn how to obtain the software. Product descriptions aim to be accurate but may change as the project evolves.

“As is” disclaimer

The website and software are provided “as is” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including uninterrupted availability, fitness for a particular purpose, or that recovery will succeed in every case, to the extent permitted by law.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Recover.md and its contributors are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for loss of data, profits, or business, arising from use of the website or software.

Changes

These terms may be updated. The “Last updated” date above reflects the current version. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms where permitted by law.
